There was an article in yesterday’s Washington Post about him not holding any press conferences and how many press conferences various other presidents have held. Would you post those kind of replies if this article was about someone publicly exploiting an unwitting deaf, mute paraplegic for money or power? Would you walk by such a display on the sidewalk downtown and point out the weather? This psychopathic freak show is far more degenerate than that. There is a unique, indescribably painful sadness and helplessness watching someone close to you go like this, and it may take years if they’re otherwise healthy. They alternate between being angry and frustrated at their ‘forgetfulness’ and being genuinely terrified at their inability to comprehend what’s going on around them.
Sorry to be such a wet blanket. When I was growing up, there were budding psychopaths that loved to capture and torture helpless little animals. There was usually the bully’s entourage of other kids enthralled by the barbarity. Then there were the kids that stood back and muttered about how sick this all was, but did nothing or just threatened to ‘tell somebody’. I was the kid that eventually showed up, immediately let the bird or cat go and then punched the psychopath in the face (if they hadn’t punched me in the face by then). It was instinctive. I too find it disgusting that this elderly gentleman, who after a long and undistinguished career, has been forced into a situation which I suspect he knows is wrong but is unable to withdraw from due to his commitments to those around him. Literally, he has nowhere else to go.
