Wood did great work for Richard Jewell. And he even defended Dem Gary Condit against defamation.
But here he may be barking up the wrong tree. The investigation was started based on an allegation by the press, Justin Law of WSVTV, not by Raffensperger.
Under Georgia law, “if a person removes to another state with the intention of making it such person’s residence, such person shall be considered to have lost such person’s residence in this state.” So once the press made the allegation, an investigation was warranted.
Wrong. NBC reported it was “CONFIRMED” by the Secretary of State. Get your facts right. Moreover, Wood was a legal resident of Georgia on November 3, 2020 when he voted in GEORGIA.
Leith is correct. Raffensperger’s office confirmed the investigation was opened after Justin Gray, a reporter with WSB-TV in Atlanta, posted an email from Wood in which Wood stated he had been “domiciled in South Carolina for several months.” Hours later, the Sec State’s office launched a probe into whether Lin voted as an out-of-state resident based on what he told Gray.
The Georgia Sec State letter to Wood asks Wood to clarify what he said to that Atlanta reporter. Sending a certified letter is more than what the Georgia Sec State usually does to those they want to strike from the voter rolls. Usually it’s just a post card that looks like junk mail demanding proof of residency within 30 days. In October 2019, the Georgia Sec State published a list of 313,243 citizens purged from the state’s voter rolls on grounds they had moved from their registration address. A thorough, name by name investigation of that list found 198,351 voters, who supposedly moved from their registration addresses, have not moved at all. They were wrongly purged, a 63.3% error rate.
In 2017 the Georgia Sec State did worse. In one day 560,000 Georgians were removed from voter rolls because they skipped too many elections in the past. How does that guard against voter fraud? The Supreme Court narrowly upheld this practice as legal. In my view it’s legal voter suppression, just like the nit picking exact match rules and targeted pole closures. The certified letter to Lin Wood is just a symptom of the wider disease.
If Wood wants to raise a stink about his letter. He should take on corrupt Georgia officials. He could do all Georgia voters a real service by widening his concern to how Georgia seeks to deny the vote to so many of her citizens.
Culling long-standing inactive voter registrations is not voter suppression.
It is reasonable to streamline this increasingly cumbersome and vulnerable operation. This is also a reminder voters have both a right to vote along with a duty to help make the overall process run fairly and efficiently – from registration to actually casting their ballot.
Finding sufficient volunteers to operate polling locations is the larger problem, as the demands on poll volunteers become more and more stringent and complicated. One is watching sausage made, when one volunteers to see our election procedures from the inside out.
Become a poll volunteer for next election and understand the fragility of this current system from the bottom up.

I admire Wood’s early career. And I admire the way he rose above his circumstances in his early life and went on to become a celeb lawyer.
But Raffensperger ain’t gonna run again anyway. He had already been told months ago by the Georgia GOP that they will not support him in any future political campaigns and that they will actively support his Primary adversaries. So he cares less about Wood’s threatened lawsuit.
The Georgia Bar Association and the Georgia GOP are not too happy with Wood either. Probably due to his twitter account. Have you ever read any of his tweets? From Wikipedia:

They are going after Lin Wood for telling the world “what is known, but not said”.
These Government officials are corrupt. At this point, I’m feeling that most high level officials have been betraying our trust for years. I’d love for them to actually prove us wrong. I am convinced now, that they can not.
What’s this, asking for proof a authority to investigate? Asking who autorized the investigation, what evidence was used to generate the authorization and just how many investigations of election fraud in Georgia is the Secretary of State of Georgia conducting?
How dare he ask those questions! This will be fun to watch play out.
All I can add is that DeKalb County (heavily blue state) did not purge My SWMBO and I after we moved out of Georgia in 2018. We were contacted by text almost daily to vote. Judging from their enthusiasm, I suspect we could have asked one of the many activist volunteers contacting us to send us an absentee ballot and they would have complied. I would love to see the distribution of purged Georgia voters by county. I suspect it was disproportionately red state voters that were purged.
