Original “Insight”story on Libby

Pat: I have had a lot of e-mails requesting the story UPI broke on Libby as an FBI target. I thought I might include it here, if you believe it will be of interest to your readers.

Cheney’s Staff Focus of Probe

     Federal law-enforcement officials said that they have
developed hard evidence of possible criminal
misconduct by two employees of Vice President Dick
Cheney’s office related to the unlawful exposure of a
CIA officer’s identity last year. The investigation,
which is continuing, could lead to indictments, a
Justice Department official said.

     According to these sources, John Hannah and Cheney’s
chief of staff, Lewis "Scooter" Libby, were the two
Cheney employees. "We believe that Hannah was the
major player in this," one federal law-enforcement
officer said. Calls to the vice president’s office
were not returned, nor did Hannah and Libby return
calls.

    Chutzpah, hurbris before the fall? Briliant new intelligence from Chalabi cooked up in Iran?
    Farce beyond tragedy.

  2. as I recall, Libby was named as the source of the leak as far back as 2003 by the blog agonist.org; apparently this was an open secret among DC journalists well before the insight article.
