Trevor Bauer, the former Cy Young Award-winning pitcher, narrowly escaped injury in a Phoenix-area car accident Wednesday afternoon. Bauer, 35, was driving his black McLaren when he was blindsided in a collision.
Emergency responders confirmed that no one required hospitalization. Bauer himself walked away completely unscathed, continuing his pursuit of an MLB comeback despite the crash.
Remarkably, this is the second McLaren owned by Bauer to be destroyed. In 2019, a detached semi-truck tire struck his parked 2016 McLaren 650S at a dealership lot. Both incidents highlight the unusual hazards Bauer has faced off the baseball field.
Bauer, once a dominant force with the Los Angeles Dodgers, saw his career disrupted in 2021 following sexual assault allegations. While criminal charges were never filed, MLB imposed a 324-game suspension, later reduced to 194 games by an arbitrator.
Despite the suspension, Bauer has maintained his innocence and has continued pitching professionally outside the MLB spotlight. He currently plays for the Atlantic League’s Long Island Ducks, boasting a 4-1 record and a 2.43 ERA.
Chasing the Major League Comeback
Bauer’s Arizona visit was intended to rehab back spasms, but the car accident briefly interrupted his preparations. He has spent months publicly advocating for another MLB opportunity, even offering to return at the league minimum salary.
The Phoenix incident serves as a reminder of Bauer’s resilience. Having survived controversy, suspension, and now a serious car crash, he continues to chase the dream of returning to Major League Baseball.f
