Walrus and I have stated our opinion that the Chinese Communist Party is committed to central governance of China under strict party control. To preserve that, the CCP will do anything needed to maintain control of all the provinces and semi-autonomous regions including Hong Kong.
People's Liberation Army (PLA) troops and armed police are massing near the Hong Kong border and an official video of the PLA performing internal security duties and hunting down dissidents has been posted by the government in such a way that it is viewable in Hong Kong . Demonstrators are labeled as rioters and unpatriotic by the Chinese government and CCP.
The stage is set for a massive, bloody intervention in Hong Kong designed to demonstrate the futility of resistance to CCP rule.
There is supposed to be a General Strike in Hong Kong on Monday. Gordon Chang said today that if the participation is big enough the Chinese government/CCP may back away from repression.
