In my wandering about Capitol Hill after I left the active employ of the US Government I visited a lot of members of Congress for the purpose of developing a set of contacts that would be valuable to me as a private consultant.
One of those was Shelia Jackson Lee, Democrat of Texas. She represents a district that is mainly in the old city of Houston. It is wrapped around the skyscraper laden financial heart of the the "oil patch." The inhabitants are mostly poor and minorities. The Houston metro area has the financial district at its heart, then it is encircled by Jackson Lee's district and then outside that ring are the new, high rise dominated, mostly white areas like the Galeria to the south and places like the old, small City of Humble north of Houston. "Houston" is really more like a region than it is like a city. In going from one place to another the distance seemed to me to always be about 20 miles and to involve an hour of travel by car.
My visit to Jackson Lee was a revelation. There are a lot of members who rule their office staffs like Roman emperors. Her place was exceptional in the degree of abject worship and fear that prevailed among her nearly all Black staff. She wanted to know what I could do for her, what my clients, both American and foreign could do for her. She was extremely ill informed about the world and uninterested in listening long enough to learn anything. I never returned.
Her bill would disarm the American people, especially people of limited means. She wants your guns. pl

There are bills in the Florida legislature which would essentially make it a crime to defend yourself. What’s the GOPlite compromise going to be, a $7,500 fine and 5 years in jail? I’m sure the ongoing obedience training is going to keep the ‘conservatives’ in line. (Rep. While I instantly bristle at any fear marketing, I was thinking to myself, if states have reluctance allocating resources to help the federal government deal with undocumented aliens sitting in local jail cells, who is going to enforce these ambitious gun laws? What do you do about states that have had a century or more of legal face-to-face sales? States are already going light on sentencing based on previous tough on crime bills.
I think this will go the way of similar bills introduced in the Georgia legislature every year that give the submitter 3 1/2 minutes of news time every year but never move. Meanwhile the supporters and and opposers get to howl for a while. Republican lawmaker Marco Rubio has reintroduced legislation that seeks to suspend the Second Amendment rights of any person who has been investigated for “terrorism” related offenses within 10 years of attempting a gun purchase.
The Senate bill, named the Terror Intelligence Improvement Act, was reentered last week in hopes of exploiting the hysteria surrounding the January 6th Capitol protests. The law intends to violate the civil liberties of American citizens who are not charged or convicted of a crime if somebody is deemed politically dangerous.
If passed, the law will grant the FBI and DNI the authority to draw up lists of US citizens arbitrarily labeled “domestic terrorists” and flag them during background checks. Those placed on the new watch list could be registered based solely on suspicion, even if an investigation fails to find evidence of criminal or “terrorist” wrongdoing. Federal courts that have examined the FBI’s various “terrorist watch lists” uncovered that the Bureau regularly places law-abiding citizens on them because they don’t like who they are or their political views.

The ever slimy Rubio might as well be a Democrat. Not sure why he thinks promoting this bill will please the people he represents in the Senate. But they are just the rabble after all, and it will probably get him invited to the right social events, and increase his corporate donations.
Wouldn’t surprise me if a significant majority of Democrats love this law.
On Mike Adams’ broadcast yesterday he brought this up mentioning that the publicly available list of who owns what would be an open invitation to criminals with a shopping list.
My concern is more the opposite, it is a reverse list of all those citizens who don’t own guns and are therefore extremely vulnerable to those same criminals.
I bet no-one gave a thought to that aspect.
I would hope that Americans would be entirely against banning rifles. I do know times now are so very different from the times when our country was being formed.
Just remember that the Pennsylvania rifles–the long guns used by the citizens–created a great advantage for the colonists against the British.
It seems to me it would be unAmerican to ban rifles.
The publicly-accessible list part is an eyebrow raiser. Have they thought this through (rhetorical question)? As JohninMK says, it would effectively provide armed criminals with a ‘safe list’ of homes to burglarize – their activity would be immediately focused. Taking this thinking a little further, it would be a gift to the NRA and gun sellers: “Sir, did you know that your home is advertised as being unprotected? Can I interest you in something for home defense?”. As the list of the unprotected shrank, the incentives to get off it would increase exponentially. Sales would soar. I wonder if Jackson Lee herself would be happy to remain on the inverse ‘no firearm’ list.
A few years ago we had a rotten apple in our firearms registry and that is exactly what he was doing; selling details of rural owners holdings and then the gangs would steal to order.
Their technique was to use young “clean skin” probationary members with a pickup truck and stolen number plates. They would rip the safe out of the wall with the truck if necessary.
CCTV Cameras, alarms, etc. are no use unless in real time with a very active police force. Otherwise all you get are photos of two guys in caps, sunglasses, masks and hoodies.
An open registry is a smorgasbord for thieves as well as an open invitation for every busybody and nasty neighbor known to you to make false allegations of misdemeanors, etc. because they “don’t feel safe” while you possess firearms. I’ve had to deal with something like that already.
As for firearm use by criminals, such bills wont make the slightest dent.
